Building Canada’s Biggest Catan Community
The article beautifully captures the origin and explosive growth of SaskCatan. Founder Tyrel Wilgosh shared how a small, 14-person event in early 2025 inspired him to build something bigger. What started with our very first Saskatoon Catan Tournament has now evolved into the largest Catan tournament circuit in Canada!
As a sponsored organizer for Catan Studios, we are thrilled to bring official organized play to the province. The feature highlights that our community isn’t just growing locally—our recent Regina event drew 42 passionate players from Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton!
Why We Play: Strategy, Community, and Fun
One of our favorite parts of the article is how it captures the welcoming spirit of our events. Whether you are a seasoned settler or a curious newcomer, there is always a seat for you.
Here are a few highlights from the Regina qualifier feature:
- Incredible Turnouts: About half of the player base for the qualifier hailed directly from Regina, proving the city is a massive hub for competitive board games.
- Beginner-Friendly: Our events usually feature a 50/50 split of veterans and newcomers. As Tyrel noted, we’ve had players show up for their first casual night and leave completely hooked on the game.
- Amazing Sponsor Support: Players walked away with welcome packages, discounts for local game shops like Dragon Den, and reduced-price escape room sessions thanks to our amazing partners at the Escape Club.
